A case study: the custom handled tin box JIAMU produced for premium freeze-dried matsutake, with a carry handle and branded finish.

Sourced from the high altitudes of Shangri-La, Yunnan, this Premium Freeze-Dried Matsutake mushroom requires packaging that reflects its “treasure of the forest” status. We developed a sophisticated large-capacity rectangular tin with a functional handle, transforming a high-end food ingredient into a prestigious gift choice.
Freeze-dried matsutake is extremely delicate and highly sensitive to moisture and physical pressure. The client needed a robust secondary packaging solution that could house multiple individual sachets while providing a “heavier,” more luxurious feel than standard cardboard. Our design team focused on a structural “suitcase” style tin that combines traditional cultural aesthetics with modern functionality.
The “Handled Suitcase” design significantly boosted the product’s appeal in the premium gift market, particularly for corporate gifting and health-conscious consumers. The reuse value of the tin — often repurposed as a household storage box — ensures long-term brand exposure. Feedback highlighted that the airtight nature of the tinplate provided an extra layer of confidence in maintaining the matsutake’s intense aroma.

This Premium Matsutake collection utilizes advanced Vacuum Freeze-Drying (FD) technology to preserve 99% of the fresh mushroom’s nutritional value and flavor. Originating from Shangri-La, it represents the peak of natural wellness and culinary luxury in the Yunnan region.
